Meeting Andrew Smith at ALA

One of our leaders, Valerie Nicholson, and one of Wake County Public Libraries’ book selectors, Cheryl Teal (a former leader of our sister Mock Newbery club) met author Andrew Smith last night at the ALA Printz Award Reception in San Francisco.  Woohoo!  Our club loved Smith’s book Grasshopper Jungle.  It was one of our Mock Printz Honor books, as well as an official Printz Honor books in 2015.

First Short List of Nominations for Our 2016 Mock Printz Awards

Our group of almost 40 teens has been reading since April.  If two or more of our group nominates a title, then it goes on our Short List.  Here is what we have so far, in alphabetical order by title. Have you read any of these?  What did YOU think?

The 2015 Melinda Awards for Young Adult Literature

Every year after we choose our Mock Printz winners, we participate in the Melinda Awards for Young Adult Literature, produced by Dr. Cris Crissman.

The Melindas recognize and celebrate the finest elements in literature for Young Adults – the best characters, titles, covers, and so on. We think of them as the Oscars for Young Adult literature.

We invite you to take a look at this year’s Red Carpet Show (we did say this was like the Oscars) and 2015 Melinda Awards for Young Literature, and then tell us about your favorites from 2015!
