Absolutely, Maybe by Lisa Yee

absolutely-maybeSummary:  When living with her mother, an alcoholic ex-beauty queen, becomes unbearable, almost seventeen-year-old Maybelline “Maybe” Chestnut runs away to California, where she finds work on a taco truck and tries to track down her birth father.

274 pages, Arthur A. Levine

  1. I enjoyed this book as I read it, and I thought the main character had a good teen voice, but none of the characters were especially strong. The main character didn’t know who she was, and the other characters were essentially flat so I don’t see it as an award winner. It’s also a bit fluffy for my tastes. I might recommend it to someone looking for a frivolous read.
